I'm an RPM Level 1 practitioner and a Communication Sciences and Disorders student at Northern Arizona University.

In 2025, I was introduced to spelling as a form of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), and it completely changed the way I understood communication for nonspeakers. Not long after, I had the privilege of working alongside autistic nonspeaking students in a specialized educational setting. Watching their thoughts, personalities, and intelligence shine through spelling confirmed what I already felt in my heart—I wanted to dedicate my work to supporting nonspeakers and their families.

As I learned more, I realized there wasn't a spelling practitioner serving families here in my home state of New Mexico. So I decided to change that.

Zia Spellers grew from a belief that every nonspeaking person deserves to be presumed competent, supported with dignity, and given meaningful access to communication, which then opens up a world of possibilities that historically has been barred for autistic nonspeakers.

It is truly an honor to walk alongside the incredible students and families who trust me to be part of their journey.

When I'm not facilitating spelling sessions or dreaming up what's next for Zia Spellers, you'll probably find me hiking New Mexico’s trails, spending time with the people I love, or hanging out with my pup, Luna.
